BRIEF:
The New Zealand Golf Network produces official handicaps. They are regularly updated but NZ Golf wanted to enable golfers to be able find out their handicaps at any time or place convenient to them - particularly when on a golf course.
SOLUTION:
Sonic built an application which enabled the golfer to be validated and matched to the appropriate member account via the New Zealand Golf database. The member simply texts in their member ID using a shortcode code number and they are sent back a text message containing their handicap information.
RESULT:
The cost of the message is charged automatically to the member's handset. The service also includes a web-based reporting tool which gives the New Zealand Golf Network the ability to monitor volumes and activity for all requests.
The service had enjoyed a steady increase in use, in 2007 over 45,000 text requests were sent with almost 4,000 individual members regularly using the service. Adopting this method of communication has enabled New Zealand Golf to have a more proactive relationship with their members and reduce the amount of queries that they need to attend to through more traditional methods of communication.
